Week 5, Day 2: A Trip Around the World

The Sunshine Group traveled all over the world today as we learned about various types of animals.  We went from the wetlands to the woodlands to the jungle to the arctic and everywhere in between!  We learned about how polar bears and penguins stay warm in the cold climate they live in.  We turned into lions, tigers, and bears (oh my!) by creating masks! We even tried to act like certain animals to have our friends guess in a fun game of animal charades! The highlight of the day, however, may have been the amazing safari designed by the green group and some CITs and volunteers that took us to the homes of many different animals!

Tomorrow, we head to the New England Aquarium.  Please remember permission slips, orange t-shirts, sneakers, snack, and lunch (lunch is eaten on the bus, in small quarters, please remember we are PEANUTE FREE !!).  We will be back by 2pm!

Week 5, Day 1: The Sunshine Group Shines Despite Rain!

Our first real rainy day of the summer was a great success!  We always have a plan in place in case of weather like this and we worked hard to make the day as normal as possible. Arts and crafts shifted completely under the tent and we played a movie inside when groups wanted a little break from the weather. But other than that, the day happened as it typically would!

This week’s theme is ANIMALS and we have many fun activities planned to learn about animals.  Groups were working on making bird feeders, animal masks (I know I saw a few bears walking around!), and mini aquariums for our fish!

This Thursday’s field trip is to the New England Aquarium! Please bring in the permission slip:

Week 4, Day 4: A Day at the Theatre

What fun we had at the Walpole Children’s Theatre seeing Dorothy in Wonderland!  The show was colorful, funny, and exciting!  The children laughed and clapped and seemed to really enjoy the experience of being in the audience for live theater.  Some children even started writing their own plays on the bus ride home.  It was a very special way to end our Week of Fame!

Next week our theme shifts to ANIMALS.  Our field trip will be to the New England Aquarium and the permission slip should be posted soon.
