Healthy Self, Healthy Food, and Safety

Today, we continued our discussion and activities about healthy self (moods, stress relief, etc), healthy food (choices, food groups, food pyramid), and safety (fire, playground, parking lot, heat, and more).

[icon name=”sun-o” class=”fa-spin” unprefixed_class=””] The red group tried a calming tool called Orbeez (water beads), they made a healthy dinner by drawing it on a plate, and they shopped for healthy foods at the grocery store.

[icon name=”sun-o” class=”fa-spin” unprefixed_class=””] The orange group made a sports magazine cover, gave compliments to friends, and added their favorite food to the giant camp plate. They also did a huge group session of yoga while talking about healthy bodies and the importance of drinking water.

[icon name=”sun-o” class=”fa-spin” unprefixed_class=””]  The yellow group did an activity about fire safety, relaxed with some yoga, and played a healthy food relay. They also did a compliment bag offering kind words to their group mates and learned about the parts of the brain.

[icon name=”sun-o” class=”fa-spin” unprefixed_class=””] The green group (with a little help from yellow) ran an awesome choice event with Olympic events. There were laurel wreaths and medals for participants.

Health week continues tomorrow at the zoo learning about the health, care and safety of animals. Please remember camp shirts, sneakers, and snack. Also, send in permission slips if you have not yet.

Week 5 – Healthy and Happy!

This week our theme is Health. We covered a wide variety of health topics including food choices, taking care of ourselves, fire safety, playground safety and more!

[icon name=”sun-o” class=”fa-spin” unprefixed_class=””] The red group learned about brushing teeth (and actually got to do some brushing of big paper teeth), created plates of their favorite foods, and learned about fire safety (stop, drop, and roll)!

[icon name=”sun-o” class=”fa-spin”The orange group talked about feelings with a mood chart, brushed paper teeth with shaving cream, practiced for some of tomorrow’s Olympic events, and talked about safety.

[icon name=”sun-o” class=”fa-spin” unprefixed_class=””]  The yellow group was busy in the field playing a food pyramid version of predator vs. prey, trying a food relay, and doing yoga. For crafts, they made stress balls, sensory bags, and labeled a skeleton.

[icon name=”sun-o” class=”fa-spin” unprefixed_class=””] The green group was hard at work developing activities for other groups and many members of the green group joined the three younger groups to help with activities, model for younger children, and share their sunshine enthusiasm!

The fun continues tomorrow with Olympic events and more! On Thursday, we head to Southwick’s Zoo to learn about the health and safety of the animals. Please remember to send in permission slips.

The Show Must Go On!

Yesterday, we headed off to Walpole Children’s Theater to see a performance of Pinocchio! The show was wonderful and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Whether it was seeing Pinocchio learning to walk without strings, laughing with the silly clown honking its horn, or helping Geppetto to have his wishes come true, the story was entertaining for all ages and we giggled, cheered, and had lots and lots of fun!

Next week, our theme is Health Week and our field trip will be to Southwick’s Zoo (permission slip below). We look forward to seeing everyone next week! Hard to believe next week will be week 5!
