Today we headed out on our first field trip of the summer and everyone had a great time! There was so much to do and see at the Science Museum from bugs, turtles, and other creatures to science at the playground and the giant dinosaur. Other groups had the opportunity to learn about electricity, the human body, pop culture, space, and more!
Tomorrow, we head to the pool!
Please send your child(ren) dressed to swim if possible. Think positive thoughts for sunshine tomorrow as well, as this rain has spent plenty of time with us already this week!
So much to see and touch, but never enough time!Exploring the world of space in a model space ship!Checking out fossils and dinosaurs!
Everyone continued to learn and explore the vast world of science today (despite a little rain in the middle of our morning today).
Having fun playing tag after a little rain!
Playing “fishy fishy cross my ocean!”
Showing off egg drop creations!
Ready for a game of predator and prey!
[icon name=”sun-o” class=”fa-spin” unprefixed_class=””] The red group made lava lamps, fossils with their own thumbprints, and did rubbings using tree bark.
[icon name=”sun-o” class=”fa-spin” unprefixed_class=””]The orange group made tornadoes in a bottle, created leaf rubbings, and played germ tag on the field
[icon name=”sun-o” class=”fa-spin” unprefixed_class=””] The yellow group talked about the predator/prey dynamic among animals and other creatures and played a game of tag connected to the idea, but the highlight of the day had to be creating a way to keep an egg safe after a long drop from the playground using only a certain set of materials. Many of the eggs survived, but all of the designs were unique and well-thought out.
[icon name=”sun-o” class=”fa-spin” unprefixed_class=””] The green group created an exciting geocaching treasure hunt for themselves, as well as for the other groups, which was a big hit.
Important Reminders for Tomorrow
Make sure to have your child bring: 1) Blue camp shirts and sneakers 2)Permission slips 3) Snack and luch
It was another beautiful day for the Sunshine Group as we continued our week making friends and learning to work as a team. There were giggles, smiles, high fives, and cheers as everyone was excited to start the day and find out what activities their counselors had planned.
Children getting ready to make tornadoes in bottles
Children making and playing with bubbles
Children exploring and making discoveries on the playground
Children working to get some experiments ready
[icon name=”sun-o” class=”fa-spin” unprefixed_class=””] The red group became very engaged with nature as they went on a nature walk and made some designs with leaves. They also made slime and played “fishy, fishy cross my ocean.”
[icon name=”sun-o” class=”fa-spin” unprefixed_class=””]The orange group planted grass, built structures using toothpicks and spice drops and made and played with bubbles as well!
[icon name=”sun-o” class=”fa-spin” unprefixed_class=””] The yellow group played a few science based tag games, went on a nature walk, learned about rocks and the insides of computers.
[icon name=”sun-o” class=”fa-spin” unprefixed_class=””] The green group did some experiments and worked with some of the other groups to help with demonstrations or to develop activities for the week.
The discoveries and excitement continue tomorrow!
Permission Slip
Please remember to send in this permission slip for our trip to the Museum of Science. Also, it is important to remember that everyone needs their blue and yellow camp t-shirt and sneakers for field trip days!
