Week 4 – The Stars Are Shining!

It is “color and arts” week for The Sunshine Group and the stars have come out to shine! We have musicians, artists, actors/actresses, and more! The talents are being revealed and Thursday’s show will be wonderful – don’t miss it!!

On Thursday, we will have our Annual Talent Show under the tent from 11am-12pm. Please join us if you can!

Reminder to parents: If you are in a hurry when you pickup at 12, do not park near the buses. You cannot go out around them. You will need to wait for them to pull out before you are able to leave.

* * Remember: The field trip is on Friday this week. Bring in the Walpole Theater Permission Slip ASAP!

The red group decorated red diamonds for the top of the sunshine rainbow, made maracas with rice and pasta, and explored colors while playing Red Light, Green Light!

The orange group created masterpieces for the sunshine museum, traced each other with chalk and decorated the creations, and there were lots of dancing and singing breaks as well!

The yellow group played some musical chairs (using old Sunshine t-shirts in place of chairs) while listening to live music, they had a live performance from their guitar playing counselors during snack, and then they started planning performances for the talent show on Thursday.

The green group planned some activities for other groups to try tomorrow and then they combined efforts with yellow to design and develop an entire game from scratch.

Tomorrow, the performances, creations, and activities continue. Hopefully the sun will join us and warm it up a bit!

Week 3 – Water Adventures Week Begins!

As we began our week of Water Adventures, everyone enjoyed a nice sunny morning while doing the activities their counselors planned for them! We started off the morning talking about the weekend and singing songs, leading us to go on to learn all about the different things water has to offer! Luckily our morning was dry, but the water adventures continued on the way home with the rain.

In the red group, they made ocean slime and paper bowl jellyfish to learn about what the ocean looks like.  They also played “Fishy Fishy Cross My Ocean” to get a taste of what it feels like to be a fish!

In the orange group, they played with some foamy sand and made tin foil boats at arts and crafts, and tested the boats during field time! There was a lot of smiles and laughs on the waterslide and the sandbox, as well as while playing water relays to cool off!

In the yellow group, everyone enjoyed the “Sponge Fling” game, played with sponges to cool off, and penny boats which were made out of tin foil, and then tested for buoyancy with rocks! Arts and crafts were filled with stations of hair gel aquariums, tin foil creatures, and paper plate sea creatures!

In the green group, they practiced playing ocean themed games that will be taught to the younger groups tomorrow, as well as made a camp wide aquarium under the tent. Many of the green group members read stories to the younger groups during snack time, which was enjoyable for all!

Field Trip Reminder

A reminder that this week’s field trip is to Hopkinton State Park for kayaking or playing on the beach.  Send in your permission slips and waivers ASAP!  Everyone needs a waiver in order to kayak!

Engineering Fun!

Everyone continued to learn and explore the vast world of science today (despite a little rain in the middle of our morning today).

The red group made lava lamps, fossils with their own thumbprints, and did rubbings using tree bark.

The orange group made tornadoes in a bottle, created leaf rubbings, and played germ tag on the field

The yellow group talked about the predator/prey dynamic among animals and other creatures and played a game of tag connected to the idea, but the highlight of the day had to be creating a way to keep an egg safe after a long drop from the playground using only a certain set of materials. Many of the eggs survived, but all of the designs were unique and well-thought out.

The green group created an exciting geocaching treasure hunt for themselves, as well as for the other groups, which was a big hit.
